Decatur’s Kylie Nichols was crowned Miss Illinois Festival Queen during a ceremony Sunday at the Decatur Civic Center.

Julia Hildebrandt was named Junior Miss Festival Queen, while Brooklynn Syrcle won the preteen division.

Nichols, 17, said she started her freshman year in high school in the junior miss division and it was satisfying finish her senior at Mount Zion High School year as the 2018 queen.

“I’m so excited to get out into my community and volunteer in the Decatur area,” she said.

Hildebrandt, a 14-year-old from Bethany, said she has competed in a number of pageants in the past, but Sunday’s win was a “whole new experience.”

“I’m very excited to start the year with my new pageant family,” she said.

Syrcle, a 12-year-old from Decatur, said it was an exciting moment when she was named winner of her division.

“I’m excited to get out into the community and do more community volunteering,” she said.

Nichols was one of three queen candidates at Sunday’s event. Hildebrandt was one of five candidates for junior miss, while Syrcle was one of eight candidates in the preteen division. There was also a parade of princesses that featured seven contestants between the ages of 5 and 9.

Along with the crown and tiaras, the winners also received a trophy/plaque, gift cards, day passes to Knights Action Park in Springfield and other prizes. All contestants received trophies/plaques, floral bouquets, and a sash and gifts from the Illinois Festival Pageant.
