Veteran music acts from the 1960s and 1970s find their way to Central Illinois this week.
Art Garfunkel is in the sixth decade of sharing his angelic voice with the world. About half the songs he's been singing on his “In Close-Up” tour are best known as works he recorded with partner Paul Simon. He'll also pull out some songs from his solo career, and add a couple of surprises. He performs on Saturday, June 22, at Champaign's Virginia Theatre. Tickets range in price from $49.50 to $120.
The next day in Champaign, Foreigner headlines at the State Farm Center. The 7:30 p.m. show features Mick Jones and his bandmates playing the equivalent of their greatest hits collection. Business Insider listed the best-selling artists of all-time in May, and Foreigner came in 40th on the list. Interestingly enough, they're just behind Simon and Garfunkel. Foreigner tickets range in price from $35 to $130.
Finally, Styx sails away to the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Thursday, June 27. They've been taking concert-goers on a trip through their catalog, with a couple of special surprises. The one that's already been spoiled in wide reports is them adding “Mr. Roboto” to the set. The suggestion came from member Tommy Shaw, who stomped off-stage during the song at a 1983 concert and announced his intention to quit the band. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show range in price from $29.50 to $149.50.
