ATHENS -- After a trying game against Williamsville, Maroa-Forsyth softball cleaned up and delivered on Thursday.
The Trojans quickly rolled over Athens, 10-0, and checked off several boxes on coach Jon Kidd's to-do list.
"We've been stressing getting big hits, especially with two outs and runners in scoring position, and we did that tonight," Kidd said. "Kate Beckemeyer only gave up two hits and our defense didn't make an error, which I'd love to see happen more."
Beckemeyer finished with nine strikeouts as well.
Kaylee Robinson kept mashing at the plate, going 3 for 3 and driving in a couple of runs. Maroa finished with 12 hits in five innings.
"We stress being in attack mode at the plate, and tonight we were all on the same page," Kidd said.
MacArthur 14, Meridian 4
MACON -- Kelby Golladay picked up another win on the mound as the Generals bats lit back up for 14 runs.
"The game went very well for a change today," MacArthur coach Eldon Bryan said. "We finally hit the ball and we had not been doing that.
"That is certainly a positive sign for us."
Andrew Michel had a massive day going 4 for 4 from the plate to inch his batting average closer to .500. Omari Morgret and Derrick Taylor both had a pair to hits to pile on.
And the Generals only had a couple of errors.
"We also limited our mistakes in the field, which helped our pitching a lot. We played a complete game from the first pitch to the last, and that is something we hadn't done in the last few games."
Litchfield 4, Pana 3
PANA -- If there's a good measuring stick for Pana to judge itself against, Litchfield's a good start.
Litchfield's had three straight seasons with at least 20 wins and four straight regionals. So even though Pana came up a goal short, coach Mike Weideman was encouraged by the game.
"We were kind of in a slump coming into today's game," he said. "But the girls played a lot better today and they were very aggressive on the ball. Daylee Denton played a very good game with two goals and she came out ready to score tonight."
Weideman also complimented Shania Schoonover, who had a goal and assist herself.
