HAMMOND -- Verneil P. “Jingles” Blythe, 77, of Hammond passed away 12:05 a.m. December 1, 2017 in his home, Hammond.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Hammond Volunteer Fire Department or the ALS Foundation.
Verneil was born September 23, 1940 in Linter, the son of Vernon and Viviene (Smith) Blythe. He married Barbara Lowery on May 25, 1960 in Monticello. He worked for Unity Township, Hammond and was an Assistant Fire Chief in Hammond for 30 years. Spent most of his pastime fishing, camping and tinkering outside.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of 57 years; son, Danny (Alice) Blythe; daughters, Penny (Jeff) Davis, Terri (Thomas) Conlin and Jody (Terry) Ramsey; sisters, Phyllis Watts and Flossie Ellen Blythe; 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Paul Dean, 2 brothers, sister and 1 step grandchild
