MACON -- James Leroy Martin, 83, of Macon, IL passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 of natural causes. Leroy’s Celebration of Life is Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, 971 Prescott Court, Macon, IL. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Leroy will be laid to rest immediately after the service at South Macon Township Cemetery. Leroy was born on January 4, 1935 in Decatur, IL, the son of Arthur Martin and Reba (Carr) Daniels. He married Carole Nelson on September 9, 1956. His wife preceded him in death, and he married Patsy (Wilson) Long on February 3, 1999.
Leroy graduated from Macon High School in 1953. Leroy was in the US Navy 1953-1954 for 5 months and 24 days and was discharged for scarlet fever. Leroy was a Merco operator at AW Staley’s Manufacturing Company in Decatur, IL from 10/1/54 thru 12/1992 for 38 years.
Leroy loved a good auction, collecting knives, toys, and antiques. Leroy was a member of the Orville Dunhan Antique Gun Collectors since 7/1/2005; Soy City Knife Club; Case Collector’s Club – Life Member 299; NKCA National Knife Collectors Life Member 208; Honorary Member of the Knife Maker Guild since 1975; AECA American (X) Collectors Association; Charter Member #672 Shepherd Hill Cutlery.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 28 years, Carole Nelson; his mother Reba (Carr) Daniels; his father, Arthur Martin; his stepmother, Charlotte Martin; his grandmother, Mabel (Sewell) Carr; his grandfather James Carr; his brother-in-law, James Nelson; his sister-in-law, Barbara Nelson; his uncle, James Carr, and wife, Thelma; his Aunt, Margie Siddens; his aunt, Bessie Carr; his cousin, Dick Burge; his second cousin, Evan Farris.
Surviving is his wife, Patty of 19 years from Decatur, IL; his daughter Karla Martin and son-in-law William Johnson from Phoenix, AZ; his daughter Kim (Steve) Horn, and only granddaughter, Alexa from Phoenix, AZ; his half brother, Art Martin and Ashley Smith from Denver, CO and their children Stephanie (Warren) Hale, and their children Carson and Boston from Warrensburg, IL; his half sister, Janey (Al) White of Illiopolis, IL and their son Will (Rachael) Riley, and their children Nicole and Max from Ramsey, IL; his sister-in-law, Linda Nelson from Collinsville, IL, and Linda’s stepdaughter, Sherri (Shane) Farris from Eldon, MO; Linda’s stepson, Craig (Valerie) Nelson, and their son James from Valmeyer, IL; and Linda’s daughter Kristie (Denny) Cherry, and their daughter Jenna from Collinsville, IL;; his cousin James (Bobbi) Carr from Indianapolis, IN, and James previous wife, Karen Carr; with their daughter Jeana (Chris) Shroyer and their children Alyssa White and Andrew from Mahomet, IL; Cheryl (Ken) Hatcher, and their daughter Madison from Decatur, IL; Jodi (Darrell) Babcock from Decatur, IL; his cousin Richard (Cathy) Carr, and their children Rick (Jennifer) Carr, and their children Brice, Cannon, and Brooke from Katy, TX; his cousin Michael (Susan) Lumbard, and their son Austin, and his daughter Rachel from Tustin, CA; his second cousin, Dave (Marla) Burge and their children Jennica Grubbs, and her children Drew, and Nick from Mt. Zion, IL; and his stepchildren Bob Stonington, Tom (Tami) Macon, David Decatur, Melinda (Bobby) Decatur; 9 step grandkids; and 18 step great grandkids
