NIANTIC -- Betty Lou O’Dell, 83, of Niantic, IL passed away at 10:36 p.m., Friday April 22, 2016, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur surrounded by her family.

A graveside service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made to Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Betty was born in Nokomis, IL, the daughter of Audrey Poteet. She married William “Bill” O’Dell Sr. on January 1, 1952. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1986. Betty graduated from Decatur High School. Betty worked and retired from Tolly’s market as the head cashier and was the recipient of the checker of the year award. She went on to work again for Eagles Food Store until she retired again to care for her only two grandsons. She truly enjoyed helping raise Zachary and Evan as she chauffeured them to all their events throughout the years. Her favorite pastimes were watching golf, playing on her Kindle, and working crossword puzzles. Betty knew no strangers and always had kind words to say about everyone she met. She loved helping out at her daughter’s antique store where she welcomed and met many new friends.

Surviving are her son William O’Dell Jr. and his wife Linda of Decatur; daughter: Lynnette Sanders and her husband Jeff of Niantic; grandsons: Zachary Senger and his wife Tiffany of Decatur and Evan Senger of Chicago and their father Quinn Senger; brother: Richard Beals and his wife Millie of Amarillo, TX; sister: Mary Quintenz and her husband Bud of Decatur. She also leaves behind her two beloved dogs Gabby and Cooper, along with Vince the cat.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Bill, mother: Audrey, and daughter: Cynthia.
