DECATUR -- Emma “Jean” Rentmeister, 85, of Decatur, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at Heartland Manor Care.

Jean was born February 15, 1931 in Mt. Pulaski, IL to Walter Charles and Pyrle Mae (Harrouff) Bartels. She married Eugene “Pete” Rentmeister on March 3, 1950 in Mt. Pulaski. He passed away on May 27, 1964. She was a purchasing agent for Caterpillar Manufacturing for many years. She loved working with ceramics, playing golf, traveling, crafts and of course her dogs.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn “Joan” (James) Cowan of Marengo, IL; three nephews, Bruce (Janet) Cowan of Belvidere, IL, Jeffrey (Julie) Cowan of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Joel (Jane) Cowan of Marengo, IL; one niece, Jeanne (Brian) Bratter of Belvidere, IL; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Private family services to celebrate the life of Jean Rentmeister will be at a later date. Burial will be in Hammond Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association.
