We in the Decatur region have plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
That struck me Saturday night as, in drizzle and cold gusts, crowds lined streets for the annual Decatur Jaycees Lighted Christmas Parade — a good show of community spirit on a chilly night. I’m also grateful for the Herald & Review co-workers who marched along, candy in hand, weathering the conditions. It was fun.
I’m also thankful for all our print and digital readers. Needless to say, we wouldn’t be much without you.

We’re proud of what we do and have lots planned as we enter the holiday season to showcase our readers. Last Sunday, we had a great time with reader-submitted holiday dessert recipes. Now we’re seeking to showcase our Decatur-area residents in another special project – and I’m hoping you can help me.
We’ll be publishing reader-submitted winter- and holiday-themed pieces of art and photos. We’re looking for original works, with a special emphasis on those that depict the region and landmarks. All ages and abilities, from seasoned artists to passionate children, are encouraged to participate.
If you’re interested in submitting yours, send a photo of the work to email@example.com or at Chris Coates, Herald & Review, 601 E. William St., Decatur, IL, 62523.
We’ll take submissions until Friday, Dec. 15, and then choose the ones we’ll photograph at a higher quality. If you have questions, call me at (217) 421-8905.
From all of us at the Herald & Review, thank you for reading. And Happy Thanksgiving.
