Matchbook Syrah is this week's featured wine.
Region: Dunnigan Hills, California
Varietals: 77 percent Syrah and 23 percent Petite Sirah
Winery Notes: "The 2014 vintage is our first Estate Bottling for the Matchbook Syrah. It was crafted entirely from our Matchbook estate vineyards and winery. This native Rhone varietal offers earthy aromas of leather and plum and delivers flavors of black cherry, blueberry, dried fruit and truffles on the palate. This age-worthy Syrah has great acidity and a flavorful and lingering finish. Pair with beef short ribs, game dishes or a venison burger."
Notable: This wine received a 91-point rating from The Wine Enthusiast magazine, which wrote: "Savory aromas of burnt sage and black pepper along with beef, anise and carbon flavors make this an adventurous wine. It's medium bodied, not overly ripe or rich and has a tight mouthfeel due to moderate tannins and lively acidity."
This wine will be open for tasting at The Decanter Fine Wines on Saturday.
