BROWNSTOWN — An all-terrain vehicle driver and his passenger were injured and airlifted to hospital Saturday night after their machine collided with a deer 8 miles north of Brownstown.
Master Sgt. Mark Flack with the State Police said the male driver and his female passenger, both aged 49 and both from St. Elmo, were flown to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. An update on their condition was not available Sunday night.
Flack said the ATV had been traveling north on Fayette County Road 1700 East when it was in collision with the animal, the impact sending the vehicle off the road and ejecting both driver and passenger. The driver was later ticketed for using a non-highway vehicle on a public road.
