DECATUR — JC Fultz, chief meteorologist at WAND-TV in Decatur, is leaving the NBC affiliate after 17 years.

Fultz said in a Facebook post he plans to pursue "a new adventure outside of the television industry," adding that he is excited to spend evenings and weekends with his wife and daughters.

His last day will be Wednesday, May 29.

Fultz, a Central Illinois native, thanked viewers for inviting him into their homes. "This is what I have wanted to do since I was 5 years old!" he wrote. "I have met some amazing people over the course of my career and made some lifelong friends."

He is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in electronic media and communication studies and a minor in broadcast meteorology.

In December, WAND morning meteorologist Adam Del Rosso left the station to join AccuWeather Inc. in State College, Pennsylvania.
