CLINTON — Formal animal abuse charges have been filed against a Wapella woman in connection with a video posted on social media in which a woman is seen apparently abusing a husky dog.
Ashlee Kemplin, 25, was formally charged Tuesday with abuse to an animal and is due in DeWitt County Circuit Court for an arraignment Sept. 5.
The charge comes after an investigation by the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office. According to court documents, a notice to appear in court has been sent to Kemplin. The charge is a criminal misdemeanor.
Last week, DeWitt County Sheriff Jared Shofner said the dog had been transferred to an unnamed animal adoption agency and would be placed in a new home.
