DECATUR — A Decatur man needed multiple stitches to close a head wound after police said his older brother pushed him into into a glass cabinet and then repeatedly punched him in the head.

A sworn affidavit by Decatur police officer Brent Morey said the assault happened Feb.18, and police arrested the 27-year-old older brother Friday night.

In the affidavit, Morey said a verbal argument between the brother and his 20-year-old sibling escalated. After being pushed into the cabinet, shards of glass fell onto the younger brother’s head, inflicting a 2.5-inch gash on his forehead. Morey said the younger brother told them he was then held in a headlock while being repeatedly punched in the head.

Morey said that when the younger brother arrived at Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment later that day, the cut on his head was “actively squirting blood.” The gash was closed with two internal stitches and 10 external stitches.

The 27-year-old was booked on preliminary charges of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and domestic battery with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class 4 felony. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The 27-year-old was being held without bond in the Macon County Jail on Monday.
