Cheating allegations led to family fight

  • 0

DECATUR – Police say a Decatur family fight, sparked by cheating allegations, resulted at one point Friday night with a husband fighting his wife, her son, her brother and landing a kick on her daughter.

Patrol officers arrived about 10 p.m in the 1800 block of Home Park Avenue to sort out the aftermath, according to sworn statements, and wound up arresting the husband, his wife and her son. They were jailed on domestic battery charges.

The sworn statements say the trouble flared when the husband, 49, accused his 45-year-old wife of having an affair. The couple began shoving each other and it's alleged the altercation escalated when the husband called his mother and his wife began “slapping him in the face.”

At this point the statements say the woman's son entered and tried to make the husband give up his mother's car keys, which he would not do. The son, 24, told police he was thrown to the floor during a subsequent struggle and then kicked before he was able to wrestle the husband to the floor and land several face punches in “self-defense.”

He told police he had later held the husband in a headlock and allegedly admitted biting the man on the back. Police said they examined the bite wound and found “a clear outline of teeth” in the husband's skin. The son had sustained cuts and bruising, according to police.

It's further alleged that the son's sister, 18, who had tried at one point to break up the fight, was kicked by the husband, who told police he had also been “punched in the face several times” by his wife's 52-year-old brother after he, too, tried to stop the fighting. The brother claimed the husband had repeatedly punched and kicked him and he had fallen to the ground.

The husband remained jailed Monday night in lieu of posting $5,000 bond. If he makes bail, he has been ordered to stay away from his wife, her son and his sister and their homes.
