DECATUR — The Macon County Sheriff's Office said a man faces a possession of child pornography charge after a female co-worker glimpsed an image of a naked girl who appeared to be 2 to 4 years old that he was looking at while at work.

A sworn affidavit said the 57-year-old New Berlin man was interviewed at work in Argenta by a deputy on Thursday after the co-worker saw the image, and after admitting to possessing the images, the man was apprehended.

While being interviewed at the Macon County Law Enforcement Center, the man consented to a search of his phone, the affidavit said, and a deputy found "over 3,000" images of child pornography. The images included boys and girls from toddlers to 16 years old and short video clips of girls "clearly under the age of 17" performing sex acts, the affidavit said.

The man faces a preliminary Class 1 felony charge of possession of child pornography, which is subject to review by the state's attorney's office. He remained in the Macon County Jail on Friday afternoon in lieu of $100,000 bond.
