Coroner identifies man killed on Decatur's east side

Police investigate near the intersection of South 21st Street and East Whitmer Street in Decatur. 

DECATUR — The Macon County Coroner's Office has identified the 25-year-old man shot to death Thursday night in Decatur as Marcqui J. Apholone. 

Apholone died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to a statement from Chief Deputy Coroner Dee Coventry. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. 

An investigation and inquest are pending. 

Police have said Apholone was found dead in a driveway on the city's east side. 

Lt. Brian Cleary of the Decatur Police Department said in a statement that officers were sent to 2100 E. Whitmer St. at 7:44 p.m. after receiving a report of gunshots in the area.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, Cleary said.

Cleary said no further information would be released at this time.
