DECATUR — A 49-year-old Decatur man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a beating that left his girlfriend with a fractured nose and left hip, police said.

Donald D. “Duck” Gaddy, 49, was jailed on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, and aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, for the assault, which a sworn police affidavit said happened Saturday morning. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state’s attorney’s office.

The affidavit said witnesses had called police after seeing the 35-year-old victim covered in blood after Gaddy was said to have attacked her as they walked in the 1300 block of East Orchard Street.

The victim told police she had been punched in the head by her boyfriend of one month and then he had “kicked her repeatedly over her entire body” after she had fallen to the ground.

Gaddy remained in the Macon County Jail Wednesday night in lieu of posting $50,000 bond. He is due to be arraigned Dec. 20.
