Decatur man gets 20 years in prison in shooting death of Cesley Taylor, 21, in 2015

DECATUR— A Decatur man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday, two days shy of the four-year anniversary of a murder he and three other teens were accused of committing.

Daiquan D. Cline pleaded guilty in February 2017 in his involvement with the murder of Cesley Taylor, 21, who was shot to death while being robbed in her apartment on Sept. 7, 2015. The sentencing in Macon County Circuit Court was the result of a plea deal, in which he agreed to testify against another defendant in the case, 20-year-old Ryan H.J. O'Neal.

Cline will serve all of the sentence and will have three years of mandatory supervised release.

According to court documents, Cline, O'Neal and two other defendants, all of whom were 16-years old at the time, went to Taylor's East Wellington Way apartment to rob her and her fiancée Britney N. Wilson, then 20 years old. Wilson survived multiple gunshot wounds.

Darion L. Evans, 20, and Shaitan L. Cook Jr., 20, were the other suspects involved in the robbery and murder. Evans, who authorities say fired both the fatal and wounding shots, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in November 2017 and was sent to prison for 45 years.

O'Neal was found guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery on Aug. 30 in Macon County Circuit Court. He is set to be sentenced Oct. 16 and faces up to 60 years in prison, plus a discretionary 15 years the judge could impose because the murder involved a firearm.

Cook is pleading not guilty to five alternate counts of murder/intent to kill/injure and two counts of committing armed robbery with a firearm. His case is scheduled for a status hearing Sept. 10.
