DECATUR — Preston D. Hyde, 30, of Decatur has been sentenced to a total of 39 years in prison for the shooting of a Decatur man who was hit four times.
The sentence was handed down in Macon County Circuit Court on Friday. The penalty included a 25-year sentence enhancement for the use of a firearm in the wounding of Bruce Green, who had been gunned down April 13 in the 400 block of East Orchard Street. Green has since recovered but said during trial testimony that doctors told him one of the bullets would stay lodged in his body for the rest of his life.
Hyde was convicted by a jury on Dec.7 of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Hyde was given credit for the 242 days he has spent in custody since the shooting.
