DECATUR — Police are investigating after a Decatur man said he was punched by two would-be robbers after being confronted in a bar parking lot early Saturday morning.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said the 32-year-old man told police he was getting into his car around 1:15 a.m. after leaving 22nd Discount Liquor when two men approached him. “He said they asked him for pills,” said Copeland. “He told them they had the wrong guy and … one of the men struck him in the face. The second male said ‘Don’t be scared’ and also hit him in the face one time.” The men fled without stealing anything.

Copeland said there were no obvious injuries on the man’s face and he was uncooperative, at least at first, with telling what happened. He later described the robbers as both black males, one was possibly of mixed race, 5-feet, 5-inches tall, slim build, short hair and wore a white tank top and khaki shorts. The other had a darker complexion, short hair and was more than 6 feet tall, weighed around 200 pounds and was wearing a cream-colored shirt and black shorts.
