DECATUR — A man pointed a gun at a Decatur woman's head during an armed robbery attempt Thursday night, but left empty-handed when she had nothing to take, police said.

Decatur police detective Sgt. Steve Carroll said the woman was getting out of her car in her driveway about 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Main Street. Carroll said a man then came up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder.

She turned around to see a gun pointed at her head, Carroll said. The man then demanded the woman’s personal belongings, which the woman did not have with her, he said.

“She did not have her purse or wallet at the time, so he got away with basically nothing,” he said.

The man then fled the scene, Carroll said.
