DECATUR — Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man after officers responding to a shots-fired call Saturday night found him in the 2000 block of East William Street.

In a statement, Deputy Chief David Dickerson said police were sent to the sound of gunshots on the city's near east side at 8:23 p.m. and then received another call about nine minutes later directing them to a man down.

The man was found near 2063 E. William St. and taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he later was pronounced dead, Dickerson said.

Detectives are investigating the death, and no other information would be released at this time, Dickerson said.
