DECATUR — A 30-year-old Decatur man was jailed after entering his ex-girlfriend's house through her unlocked bathroom window and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her head as she slept, police said.

Jechelle D. Hendrix was arrested Monday morning on preliminary charges of home invasion, a Class X felony; possession of a firearm by a felon; aggravated unlawful use of a weapon; motor vehicle theft; and domestic battery with a prior. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

A signed police affidavit said Hendrix entered the woman's residence on the city's northeast side about 5 a.m. Friday morning. The woman told police that he woke her up while pointing the handgun at her head. After he ordered the woman out of bed, Hendrix pulled her by her hair and hit her in the back of the head with the gun, the affidavit said.

He then forced her to give him the keys to a rental car parked in a detached garage at the house, which neither the woman nor the man who was leasing the vehicle gave him permission to drive, the affidavit said.

Hendrix was being held in the Macon County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $500,000 bond. He is due in court for arraignment Oct. 12.
