DECATUR — A 55-year-old man who police say sexually touched a child under the age of 13 or forced her to perform sexual acts on him during different occasions was arrested Thursday.

Frank E. Sherman faces preliminary charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

A signed affidavit of Sherman's arrest said a Decatur police officer conducted an interview with the child on Jan. 10.

She told police that Sherman began to act inappropriately around her during the summer, and described incidents where he exposed himself in front of her, touched her private areas, attempted to put her hand down his pants and forced her head toward his private area.

Sherman was held in the Macon County Jail Friday on $200,000 bond. If he makes bail, he is ordered to stay away from the child and any minor under the age of 18.
