DECATUR — An 18-year-old was arrested over the weekend with pot and a loaded gun in his car, police said.

A sworn affidavit said Decatur police arrived to the 800 block of East Cleveland Avenue at 10:40 p.m. Saturday and saw a crowd surrounding the man's vehicle. The officer said they smelled an odor in the car and after searching, found 15.5 grams of cannabis and a 9 mm handgun with a magazine that appeared to be fully loaded and a round in the chamber.

The man told police he purchased the gun for $150, the affidavit said, but he didn't have the correct firearm owner ID card. Police said they also found a functioning digital scale.

The man was arrested on preliminary charges of armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a handgun and manufacturing and delivery of cannabis. His bail is set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 21.
