DECATUR — Police are seeking a male suspect after a man was shot and wounded early Tuesday at the Econo Lodge Hotel on Decatur's northern edge.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with Decatur Police said officers were called to the scene at 5:29 a.m. Tuesday after a hotel employee said a man had been found shot in the parking lot of the building, 5170 N. Wingate Drive.

"The victim, who is from Missouri, was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital and, the last I knew, he was being treated for non life-threatening injuries," said Copeland, speaking around 10:45 a.m.

He did not have a detailed suspect description. Copeland said any members of the public with information can contact the police at (217) 424-2734 or call Crime Stoppers at (217) 423-8477.

Police investigation teams were still working the crime scene late Tuesday morning. Kevin Shah, manager on duty at the hotel at 9:30 a.m., said his staff did not know anything about the incident, which took place outside. Hotel guests were safe inside, he said.
