DECATUR — Police are investigating after a Decatur UPS driver said he may have been was shot with a BB or air rifle pellet gun while making deliveries Tuesday afternoon.

Detective Sgt. Steve Carroll said the incident happened about 1:30 p.m. as the 60-year-old driver was out of his truck and walking in the 1800 block of East Locust Street.

But Carroll said the driver is not absolutely sure what happened to him after suddenly feeling a sharp stinging sensation in his left buttock.

“He thinks he got shot with a pellet gun but isn’t sure,” Carroll said. “He would not let us look at his injuries or anything … he didn’t want to pull his pants down."

Carroll said the embarrassed driver did tell officers that he is allergic to wasp and bee stings and is pretty sure it wasn’t an insect that stung him.
