Amber L. Hill

DECATUR — The lawyer representing a Decatur woman pleading not guilty to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and home invasion was given more time to prepare her defense in a court appearance Tuesday.

Attorney Chris Amero asked for the DUI case against Amber L. Hill, 27, to be set for a pretrial hearing in Macon County Circuit Court on Dec. 19, a motion granted by Judge Eric Hubbard. Amero is also defending Hill on a charge of home invasion causing injury, and that is set for a pretrial hearing Nov. 16.

Both sets of charges date back to May 1 when sworn police affidavits said Hill admitted to drinking half a pint of vodka, forcing her way into her 52-year-old mother's home, grabbing her by the throat and punching her. The affidavit said Hill was angry that her mother had not picked Hill's children up from school.

Prosecutors said Hill then drove off with the children, ages 9 and 2, in her vehicle, but she was intercepted quickly by police.
