DECATUR — An 18-year-old woman faces a preliminary charge of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, after police said she tried to hit her boyfriend numerous times with her mother's car Sunday.

A signed police affidavit said that at 8:38 p.m. on a parking lot in the 300 block of West Grand Avenue, the man told the woman to leave the area several times. He also started hitting the vehicle with a 4-foot piece of guttering, threw things at her and "taunted" her, the affidavit said the woman told officers.

The woman, who was in the vehicle's driver seat during the incident, told police that she tried to hit the man at least five times with her vehicle, the affidavit said. In her attempt to strike the man, the woman hit a yellow concrete post on the parking lot, the affidavit said.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. She is due to be arraigned July 27.
