DECATUR — A Decatur mother enraged that her former friend was dating the father of her children attacked the woman where she worked and repeatedly rammed the man's car when he arrived to help, police said.

A sworn statement from Decatur police said the violence broke out Monday afternoon while the female victim was working at Arby’s Restaurant, 1495 East Pershing Road. The 24-year-old assailant attacked the victim inside the restaurant and forced her to the ground while pulling on her hair.

Writing in the affidavit, police Officer Joseph Kish does not describe how the assault ended, but said the victim later managed to call her boyfriend for help.

But when he arrived in the area driving the victim’s car, the woman was waiting for him outside. “She used her silver vehicle to run into (the victim’s car) several times while on the lot of the Old Country Market, 1450 East Pershing Road, while (the man) was inside the vehicle,” said Kish.

“I observed that the rear bumper on (the victim’s car) was knocked off the car, the right rear tail light was knocked off and the front driver side wheel and wheel well was damaged.”

The woman, who Kish said had an outstanding warrant for her arrest on a domestic battery charge with the man as the victim, was booked on preliminary charges of aggravated battery and criminal damage. All preliminary charges are subject to review by the state attorney’s office.

The woman remained held in the Macon County Jail Tuesday night in lieu of posting bond set at $10,000. If she makes bail, she is ordered to stay away from the victim, her boyfriend and Arby’s.

A person answering the phone at Arby’s said a manager was not available to comment when contacted Tuesday afternoon.
