DECATUR — Police said a Decatur man is facing a felony charge after scratching a 12-year-old girl when he opened the door of a car being driven by her mother and grabbed the child by the arm Saturday evening.

A sworn Decatur police affidavit said the incident happened just after 5 p.m. while the vehicle was in the 1500 block of East Wood Street.

“(The 36-year-old man) … opened the passenger side door … reached in and grabbed (the child) by the arm and pulled her backwards at which time the 12-year-old daughter sustained minor injury to her inner right elbow,” the affidavit said.

Police officers at the scene said the child was left with a scratch on her elbow “consistent with being grabbed.” The affidavit gave no motive for the incident.

The man was arrested later Saturday evening and booked on a preliminary Class 1 felony charge of vehicular invasion, which is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney’s Office.

Macon County Jail records show the man is free after posting $10,000 bond.
