DECATUR — An 18-year-old man needed three staples to close a head wound after being knocked to the ground and clubbed by two assailants while walking in Decatur on Tuesday night, police said.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with Decatur Police said the man and a 17-year-old friend told police they were in the 1500 block of East William Street looking to buy cannabis about 9 p.m.

“Instead they encountered two men, one about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, the other about 5 feet, 11 (inches), and the shorter male pointed a handgun at them while the taller one tackled the 18-year-old to the ground,” added Copeland.

“He was then hit on the back of the head with the gun, according to the victim.”

Nothing was reported as being stolen, Copeland said. The man who had been clubbed was later treated in the hospital.
