DECATUR — An argument that erupted inside a Decatur video gambling parlor ended with a man slamming his girlfriend's head into the ground multiple times before she was punched in the face, according to police.

A sworn affidavit from Decatur police officer Andrew Holloway said the attack happened about 8:15 p.m. Feb. 19 at a gambling parlor in the 1600 block of East Eldorado Street where the woman was working. Holloway said she began arguing over her car with her 38-year-old boyfriend who escalated the confrontation by spitting in her face.

The boyfriend then followed her outside, according to Holloway, before grabbing her hair and shoving her to the ground.

“(The girlfriend) advised he held her head and slammed it against the ground approximately four to five times,” Holloway added. “She said he punched her one time in the left side of her face, causing her eyeglasses to break.”

Police found and arrested the boyfriend Tuesday, and he was booked on a preliminary charge of domestic battery while having a prior domestic battery conviction. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State Attorney’s Office.

The man remained in the Macon County Jail on Wednesday night in lieu of $100,000 bond. If he makes bail, he is ordered to stay away from his girlfriend, her workplace and her home.
