DECATUR — Police are investigating after a Decatur man said he was shot at and wounded while walking in the city in the early hours of Sunday.

The 20-year-old man said he was in the area of West Decatur and South Crea streets at 3:30 a.m. when he was approached by a man dressed all in black, according to detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with the Decatur police.

“As soon as he sees this guy coming towards him, the victim said he started to run away,” Copeland said. “And he said the guy ... pulled a gun from his pocket, and the victim said he heard one shot fired and he feels pain in his right foot.”

Copeland said the man had graze wounds to his right foot and right calf muscle but not bullet-like puncture wounds.

“He could have caught a ricochet or shrapnel from a bullet striking concrete or whatever,” Copeland said. “The injuries were very minor.”

There appears no motive for the attack, and the incident remained under investigation, police said.
