DECATUR — A Monticello man was arrested in Decatur Monday on preliminary charges he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl several years ago.

A sworn affidavit from Decatur Police said the 51-year-old man is already a registered sexual predator in Illinois based on previous offenses. He was booked on a new charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and remained held in the Macon County Jail Tuesday night in lieu of posting $250,000 bond. All preliminary charges are subject to review by the state attorney’s office.

Writing in the affidavit, Detective Jamie Wrigley did not explain how the new charge had suddenly come to light. But he said the girl had disclosed the abuse during a “forensic interview” conducted at the Child 1st Center in Decatur. She said the abuse involved touching her private parts.

Wrigley quoted the girl, who is a relative of the man, as saying the abuse happened at an address in Decatur when the man and his wife were visiting, and the girl ended up sharing their bed.

Wrigley said the girl also recalled another incident of abuse that happened in a different police jurisdiction.
