DECATUR — Decatur police on Wednesday said an arrest warrant has been issued in the early Sunday shooting of a man in the 1000 block of East Main Street.

Cory J. Marquis, 30, is wanted on a preliminary charge of attempted murder, according to the police department. He should be considered armed and dangerous, the release said.

Police said the shooting that Marquis is wanted for happened at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Decatur police Lt. Brian Cleary previously said in a statement that officers were called to the area after reports of gunshots.

The 34-year-old victim was taken from the area to HSHS St. Mary's Hosptial and was later transferred to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Police said the victim was treated for "life-threatening" injuries after the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Marquis are asked to call Decatur police at (217) 424-2711 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 421-8477.
