DECATUR — A wounded person was taken to a local hospital by ambulance after a shooting in the 700 block of West Decatur Street on Monday, the Decatur Fire Department confirmed Monday.
The incident took place about 1:37 p.m., according to the fire department. Decatur police did not respond to multiple messages seeking more information Monday afternoon and evening.
Witnesses in the area told a Herald & Review reporter that they heard multiple gunshots around 1:30 p.m.
Traffic was diverted from the intersection of West Decatur and North Monroe streets for more than an hour. Police marked several spots in the roadway that appear to be key to the investigation.
