DECATUR — Two club-wielding men who targeted a Decatur man were caught within 20 minutes of the crime Monday night, according to police.

A sworn affidavit from the Decatur police said the 36-year-old victim was accosted and threatened by two men as he walked down an alley at 7:45 p.m. in the 100 block of North Water Street.

One of the men menaced him with a club and the other shoved him against a wall when he tried to run, the affidavit said. They stole the victim’s hat, shoes and backpack.

But patrol officers, armed with a description of the suspects, spotted them at 8:04 p.m. as they walked in the 200 block of East William Street. The affidavit said they were still carrying the club and the victim’s belongings.

The suspects, aged 44 and 39, were booked on preliminary charges of aggravated robbery, which are subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
