DECATUR – A passing police patrol in the 1000 block of North Water Street near East Packard Street heard anywhere from seven to 10 gunshots around 1 a.m. Sunday, and stopped a vehicle seen speeding away from the area.

Sgt. Brian Earles described the vehicle as having three men inside who “were all previously known to police” for criminal activity but patrol officers could find no weapon or evidence of wrong-doing.

A search of the area did not turn up a crime scene, either, and the men were released without charge.
