The northbound lanes of North Monroe Street were blocked as police worked the scene.

DECATUR — Police reports identified the body found hanging Monday from a bridge in the 2700 block of North Monroe Street as that of a 64-year-old man.

The reports, made available Tuesday, listed the cause of death as "suicide." The name of the man has not yet been released.

Lt. Shannon Seal with Decatur Police said Monday that officers were called to the scene at 3 p.m. and the road was closed off. “The road will be shut off so our officers and first responders can do what they need to do,” Seal added.

The northbound lanes of North Monroe Street were blocked just north of the intersection with McKinley Avenue shortly before 4 p.m.

Speaking later Monday evening, Seal said there were no suspicious circumstances around the hanging death. "No, we're not treating it like any kind of foul play," she added.
