DECATUR — Police said a 30-year-old Decatur man was arrested after beating his 13-year-old daughter with a cord.

Decatur police Sgt. Chris Copeland said officers were sent at 12:34 a.m. Sunday to the 1300 block of North Union Street after a caller told a dispatcher that a man hit his daughter numerous times with an extension cord.

When police arrived, officers saw multiple welts on the girl's left arm and both of her legs, Copeland said. A few of the lashings on her right leg broke the skin and were bleeding, he said.

He said the girl was hit at least 10 times with the cord.
