Police: Decatur man arrested after firing gun into air

DECATUR — A Decatur man was arrested Wednesday after police said he recklessly fired his weapon into the air outside an apartment.

The 23-year-old man was arrested just after 4 a.m. after he had been thrown out of a party in an apartment in the 3700 block of North Portage Place, a police affidavit said. He fired his gun into the air after he was outside the apartment, police said.

Police said they recovered a single spent 9 mm shell casing. The man had a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card and an active concealed-carry permit, police said.

He faces preliminary charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and violation of the Illinois Concealed Carry Act for having a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent at the time of the incident, police said.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. The man is free on $7,500 bail and is due to be arraigned Dec. 19.
