DECATUR — A 40-year-old man is facing a preliminary Class X felony charge after invading another man's home and punching him in the face several times, court documents say.

According to a sworn affidavit, police were sent at 3:14 p.m. Monday to a home in the 2400 block of North Water Street.

A 37-year-old man told officers he was sitting in a chair listening to music when he heard a loud knock and kick at his door, the sworn affidavit said. When the victim opened the door, he was immediately struck in the face by the 40-year-old man.

The sworn affidavit said the victim told officers he fell backward onto a computer desk, causing it to break, and the intruder hit him one or two more times in the face. The victim grabbed a knife and told the suspect to get out of his apartment before calling police, the court documents say.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Macon County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $30,000 bond. The man is facing a preliminary Class X felony charge of home invasion, which is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.
