DECATUR — A 29-year-old man was arrested after a girl younger than 12 told her teacher that he had touched her inappropriately on several occasions, police said.

The girl told her teacher about the interaction on May 21, according to a sworn police affidavit. Officers interviewed the girl, who said Thomas R. Moore had touched her "private parts" on three occasions when she was home sick from school, the affidavit said.

An employee at the girl's school and the girl's mother both confirmed that she had been home sick on three occasions in recent months.

Moore was interviewed at the Decatur Police Department headquarters Thursday, the affidavit said. He waived his Miranda rights and acknowledged being in the house with the girl and laying on a bed with her, according to the affidavit.

He was booked into Macon County Jail on a preliminary charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, in lieu of $250,000 bond. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.
