DECATUR — A 46-year-old woman was arrested after police say she stole over $1,000 between Feb. 12 and March 11 from her employer, Save-A-Lot at 2280 E. William St., detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said.

A manager noted she had been having an unusual number of unbalanced registers at the end of her shifts, Copeland said. The asset protection manager began an investigation into the issue.

Copeland said the asset protection manager found 343 canceled transactions between Feb. 12 and March 11 for $1,085.69.

It was determined the suspect was cancelling the transactions, retrieving the overage from the register and concealing it in her pocket for her own use, Copeland said.

The suspect was arrested for retail theft. A phone call to Save-A-Lot was not answered Thursday morning.

All preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.
