DECATUR — Police said a woman stabbed her boyfriend with a 6-inch steak knife during an argument early Friday and was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery.

A police affidavit said the woman thought her boyfriend, who had accused her of being unfaithful, was being "very disrespectful" and "very aggressive" by continuing to argue. The woman acknowledged that she walked into the kitchen, grabbed the knife and "stuck" the man with it to keep him away from her, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said the man was intoxicated when officers tried to interview him, and he insisted that nothing happened. The affidavit said the man had a 1-inch stab wound on his left wrist.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. The woman was being held in Macon County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bond Friday and is due to be arraigned Oct. 9.
