DECATUR — A Decatur man has been arrested on a preliminary charge of sexually assaulting a woman in her home after police said he was linked to the incident by DNA.
A sworn police affidavit said the woman, age 35, reported to police she was assaulted the night of May 20. She said the 44-year-old man walked her home after a party, and she awoke the next day to find she had been sexually assaulted.
The man denied assaulting her but was arrested Sunday night after an Illinois State Police crime laboratory analysis identified him through a DNA sample, police said. He was booked on a preliminary charge of criminal sexual assault. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The man remained held in the Macon County Jail on Monday night in lieu of $50,000 bond. If he makes bail, he has been ordered to stay away from the woman and her home.
