DECATUR — A 45-year-old Decatur man was arrested Friday night on a preliminary charge of manufacture/delivery of more than 100 grams of heroin after the vehicle he was travelling in on Interstate 72 near Decatur was pulled over by the Decatur Police Street Crimes Unit.

A police dog alerted to the drugs, which were found on the body of a female passenger, a sworn affidavit said. The woman told police the Decatur man had ordered her to conceal the drugs after they were in Chicago together, the affidavit said.

“The Street Crimes Unit was currently conducting a narcotics investigation involving (the suspect) transporting narcotics from Chicago to Decatur,” officer Jason Hesse wrote in the affidavit.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state’s attorney's office. The man is being held in the Macon County Jail without bond and is due to be arraigned Friday.
