DECATUR — Police are investigating after a Decatur woman said an ex-boyfriend published sexual images of her online without her permission.
Detective Sgt. Steve Carroll said Thursday that the woman, now in her 20s, had been in a relationship with the man, now 24, that dated back to her early teenage years.
Carroll said the fact that intimate pictures were sent to someone privately with the sender’s approval previously does not give the recipient permission to publish them online later. “You are not allowed to re-disseminate them,” said Copeland.
"But we’re talking about naked pictures here," he added. "If you take a picture of yourself on Lake Decatur and you’ve got a shirt on and somebody re-posts that, there is nothing we can do about that. This non-consensual dissemination statute is strictly about naked pictures."
