DECATUR — Police are investigating after a 20-year-old man was found dead in a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Edward Street early Saturday.

Sgt. Steve Carroll said in a statement that police were sent to the address at 1:15 a.m. on a report of someone having been shot. Officers found the man in the parking lot on the east side of the street and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Decatur Police Department is investigating leads, interviewing witnesses, and processing physical evidence,” Carroll said.

Police described the victim as a Decatur resident. Macon County Coroner Michael Day said in a statement that he had lived in Chicago, but was reportedly staying in Decatur in anticipation of moving here. An autopsy is scheduled at the McLean County morgue in Bloomington.

The victim's identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
